The team of Wang Yuexiang of shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health of the Chinese Academy of Sciences-Long March Hospital Joint Translational Medicine Center analyzed the new mechanism of malignant progression of gastrointestinal mesothelioma for the first time in the world, analyzed the important molecular mechanism of the progression of mesothelioma by suppressing the ineration of cancer genes, and provided molecular markers to distinguish the malignant degree of mesothelioma, and provided a basis for the accurate treatment of mesothelioma. The findings were published October 22 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Based on optimizing the discovery of new drive genes, the researchers established a research system of gastrointestinal mesothelioma-driven genes, and for the first time discovered the new cancer-suppressing gene DEPDC5 in mesothelioma located on chromosome 22, proving that its encoded protein DEEPDC5 inhibits the proliferation and growth of mesothelioma cells. This protein prevents mesothelioma from growing when it functions properly. However, the higher the malignancy of mesothelioma, the lower the expression of the protein when it is inactive due to a mutation in the encoded gene. Studies have shown that the insistencies of the DEPDC5 protein promote the malignant progression of mesothelioma.
"s academics speculated 20 years ago that chromosome 22 of gastrointestinal mesothelioma had a tumor suppressor gene, and now we have finally found it. Wang Yuexiang said, "In the early days, the small size of the tumor, limited growth capacity, one of the reasons is that DEEPDC5 has anti-cancer function." Once DEEPDC5 is insemination, mesothelioma proliferation capacity is enhanced, pushing it in a vicious direction.
experts believe that the study is of great significance for the treatment of late-stage tumors and the effective prevention and delay of mesothelioma, and for DEEPDC5 insensic mesothelioma patients, laying the theoretical foundation for future clinical applications.
