The Indian government has reportedly renewed plans
to build large-scale solar power projects in the Ladakh region of its northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is known that the region has the highest
solar radiation per area.
The Minister of New and Renewable Energy said the central government would issue a tender for the establishment of a 25 GW solar farm
in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
The project will provide electricity to transmission points in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh for further distribution
.
If the project is implemented, the solar farm will be the largest in India
.
The largest solar power park currently planned and approved by the Indian government is the 5 GW Dholera Solar Farm
in Gujarat.
The project is expected to be tendered
soon.
The proposed tender for the Ladakh Solar Farm will also include battery modules
.
Currently, there are no large-scale solar power projects in India, which can cater to battery storage plans
auctioned by any state or central government in India.
