The Danish Energy Appeals Board has ruled that Norse National Grid and Danish National Grid are likely to continue to reserve capacity for resource swaps on an interconnection between the two countries until the end of
2019.
The fourth Denmark-Norway interconnection line was approved for reserved capacity until the end of 2019
"This is good news and meets the prerequisites
for building interconnected lines.
Previous rulings by the Danish Energy Regulatory Authority did not allow reserved capacity, and we are pleased that the current ruling allows us to maintain agreements
between transmission operators.
Øivind Rue, executive vice president of Norwegian National Grid, said
.
Since the commissioning of the fourth interconnection line (SK4) between Norway and Denmark, 100 MW of the total capacity of 1700 MW has been reserved for automatic standby
.
These spare capacities are important
to maintain the operation of the power system in the event of faults and rapid changes in power flows.
The Danish Energy Regulatory Authority approved the capacity reservation before the commissioning of the interconnection line and said it would evaluate it after a year before deciding to stop the reservation
.
Transmission operators referred the decision to the Complaints Board, which has now ruled that capacity
can be retained until the end of the agreement at the end of 2019.
The reservation of reserve capacity is an important prerequisite
for Norslander's investment in the fourth interconnection line between the two countries.
The Danish National Grid estimates the added value of such capacity reservations in Denmark and Norway to be at least DKK 60 million
