The European Commission has approved ABB's plan
to acquire General Electric Industrial Solutions (GEIS).
The European Union approves ABB's plans to acquire GE Industrial Solutions
The EU believes that the merger of electronics and system suppliers will not raise competitive concerns
in the relevant global markets.
The committee found that although both companies offer similar products and services, they focus on different geographic areas of activity, with ABB and GEIS having strong presence
in Europe and the United States, respectively.
The EU said the combined entity will continue to face effective competition
from numerous large competitors as well as specialized local suppliers.
The EU added that products in the electrical industry are often homogeneous and therefore interchangeable between competing brands, reducing the likelihood of
competing concerns.
