Equatorial Guinean telecommunications service provider Gestor de Infraestructura de Telecomunicaciones (GITGE) and Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN) have announced that they have landed on the Ultramar GE submarine cable system to connect São Tomé to the island of Annobon in Equatorial Guinea via the Ile de Sein cable
.
The submarine cable system will increase connectivity and high-speed telecommunications capacity on the continent, thereby reducing the island's reliance on
satellite technology.
Oscar Ondo Ngomo Nchama, Director General of GITGE, said: "Our efforts are mainly focused on expanding connectivity and increasing the diffusion of
modern technology in Equatorial Guinea.
The completion of this system is a classic example of regional development cooperation and will bring higher Internet speed and economic benefits to the region, which will contribute to the digital development
of Annobon Island.
