The effect of low light stress on rice fertilization and seed setting was revealed |
Recently, the team of Professor Ren Wanjun from the College of Agriculture of Sichuan Agricultural University revealed the reason why the low-light stress behind the panicle leads to the decrease of rice seed setting rate

Field Crops Research
The seed setting rate of rice is mainly determined by flowering and fertilization and grain filling and filling
.
Low fertilization rate leads to more empty rice grains, and poor grain filling leads to more deflated grains
In order to further clarify the effect of low light stress on rice seed setting rate, this study set up field artificial light control experiments to study the changes of rice flowering and fertilization process under low light stress behind ears
.
The results of the study showed that low light stress severely hindered the pollination and fertilization of rice spikelets, reduced stigma exposure, significantly reduced anther cracking rate, and significantly reduced stigma receiving pollen grains.
