The effect of COVID-19 vaccine in preventing hospitalization, emergency room and severe illness

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine involved data from nearly 200 hospitals across the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with six American healthcare systems and the Regenstrief Institute, created the VISION network to evaluate the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine

Data analysis shows that the 2 doses of mRNA vaccination (Moderna and Pfizer) are:

• 89% effective prevention of COVID-19 hospitalization

• 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 emergency room or emergency room visits

• 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 intensive care unit admission

In individuals who received only the first dose of the two vaccines, the effectiveness was significantly lower

This study is also one of the first to observe the effectiveness of Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccine
