The domestic pharmaceutical packaging material industry, which is constantly catching up and upgrading from bottle cap to bottle body, has a promising future

Coincidentally, in mid-January this year, many media reported that with the advancing of the large-scale production of the new crown vaccine, the vaccine bottle was "in emergency" globally.

Medicine packaging materials that cannot be ignored

The small bottle cap affects the vaccine injection process, and the vaccine bottle indirectly determines the global supply capacity of the new crown vaccine.

As an indispensable part of drugs, the above-mentioned pharmaceutical packaging materials are accompanied by the whole process of drug production, circulation and use, and play an important role in the safety and effectiveness of drugs, and their importance cannot be ignored.

Domestic products are catching up and upgrading

According to the materials, the pharmaceutical packaging materials in the current market can be roughly divided into two categories: glass products and rubber products, including controlled bottle series, molded bottle series, butyl rubber stoppers, plastic bottles, and aluminum-plastic composite caps.

Previously, according to information disclosed by the China Vaccine Industry Association, there are currently more than 60 domestic manufacturers of relevant pharmaceutical packaging materials.

The materials used in domestic medical glass bottles are mainly soda-lime glass and low borosilicate glass.

At present, most of the domestic raw materials for borosilicate control bottles are imported borosilicate glass tubes such as SCHOTT and Corning.

A series of policies encourage the industry to develop new logic

It must be mentioned that the upgrading of the domestic pharmaceutical packaging material industry must first benefit from the continuous encouragement of domestic policies.

Both the 2015 Industrial Structure Adjustment Guidance Catalogue and the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Planning Guide promulgated in 2016 mention the need to encourage the production of Class I water-resistant medicinal glass products; in the generic drug consistency evaluation work carried out after CDE, the "About Publicly soliciting opinions on the "Technical Requirements for Consistency Evaluation of Listed Chemical Generic Drugs (Injections)", mentioning that "low borosilicate glass and soda lime glass are not recommended"; in May 2020, CDE issued the "Chemical Drug Injection Imitations" Technical Requirements for the Consistency Evaluation of Pharmaceutical Quality and Efficacy", it is clear that the quality and performance of packaging materials and containers used in injections shall not be lower than that of the reference preparation, so as to ensure that the quality of the drug is consistent with the reference preparation.

Previously, my country's pharmaceutical packaging materials adopted a registration approval system, and pharmaceutical packaging materials and drugs needed to be applied separately and obtained corresponding licenses respectively.

The related review system considers the pharmaceutical packaging materials and drugs as a whole, and the pharmaceutical packaging materials should be associated with the drug clinical trial or production application.

From a long-term perspective, the domestic pharmaceutical packaging material industry will gradually improve its technical level and develop towards the high-end packaging material industry.
