Uganda's National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) has revealed that the procurement of fibre optic networks for the fourth phase of the National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure and E-Government Infrastructure Project (NBI/EGI) has begun
    .

According to NITA-U, the review of tender applications and the technical evaluation
of the tenders already received have begun.

    NITA-U launched a tender
for NBI/EGI Phase IV in August 2017.
The project will supply and install 842 km of overhead fibre optic cables to extend the coverage of the National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) to Moroto, Katakwi, Karuma, Pakwach, Nebbi, Arua, Koboko, Yumbe, Moyo and Adjumani, as well as the three boundary points of Mpondwe, Vurra and Oraba.
Nearly 50 km of fibre-optic cables will be piped
and deployed underground in urban areas.

The first phase of the NBI is the deployment of a 198-kilometer fiber network
connecting the capital Kampala with four cities, including Mukono and Entebbe.
The second phase includes a total of 1,400 km of fiber-optic cable network
connecting Busia, Tororo, Masindi and other regions.
The third phase involves the deployment of 756 km of fibre optic cables along Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara-Katuna, Masaka-Mtukula and Masindi-Hoima-Kyenjojo, enabling fibre optic networks
    with Rwanda and Tanzania.
