Recently, the African Development Bank is making great progress in on-grid and off-grid solar to support countries
that electrify and mitigate climate change in the Sahel region by 2020.
In addition to supporting African countries to protect themselves from weather disasters, the bank will use its "desert powers" to help develop 10GW of solar projects
in the Sahel.
The project is expected to provide electricity to 250 million people, 90 million of whom will receive electricity
through off-grid systems.
Another goal is to reduce energy fuels
for poor households.
The bank has financed the development of
a 50 MW solar power system in Burkina Faso.
As part of the financing, the African Development Bank is also supporting the Northern Electrification Project, which will connect Burkina Faso with Nigeria, Nigeria and Benin
.
The bank's project leader said the Sahel project, once completed, was expected to become "the largest solar system area in the world.
