Recently, two companies focusing on the research and development of alternative protein raw materials have received $20 million and $1 million in seed round financing
.
The two companies are Liberation Labs, a developer of precision fermentation platforms, and Armor Fresh Technologies
, an alternative protein development company.
Liberation Labs' sophisticated fermentation facility produces novel proteins
.
The financing from Liberation Labs, led by Agronomics and Siddhi Capital, will be used to purchase and develop a new manufacturing site and build a 600,000-liter production facility to meet the demand
for new proteins from traditional food companies as well as new food technology companies.
Liberation Labs said it hopes to commercialize precision fermentation by significantly increasing the availability of precision fermentation capabilities, promote biotechnology progress, and complete the large-scale production
of alternative proteins.
Liberation Labs expects to begin operations and commercial production
by the end of 2024.
Armor Fresh Technologies (AFT) is a company
that develops plant raw materials that have the same function as animal protein.
The company has developed a new technology that can be used to produce alternative proteins
that replicate casein.
Casein is a milk protein
found only in animal milk.
Thanks to this leading-edge technology, AFT's U.
S.
subsidiary was founded and managed to attract $1 million in seed investment
.
AFT said that this technology, which can be used to replace casein, can produce alternatives to various animal dairy products such as cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc.
, and eventually achieve use in all products
containing animal protein.
This emulsified protein produced by the new technology differs from existing plant proteins in terms of function and nutrition, it is water-soluble, emulsible and contains more than 50% essential amino acids
.
Since the raw material has almost no taste, it has the advantage of not affecting the
flavor profile when applied.
The key point of this new technology is to extract proteins from selected microorganisms and give these microorganisms an emulsifying function, allowing them to produce proteins
that can replace casein.
AFT also plans to expand its product range
by introducing vitamins, minerals and functional proteins of plant origin.
