On February 11, 2022, the research group of Tang Shiming, a researcher from the School of Life Sciences of Peking University, IDG McGovern Brain Research of Peking University, Peking University-Tsinghua Life Science Joint Center, and the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligent Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Neuroscience) ) Wang Liping and researcher Min Bin of Shanghai Brain Science and Brain-like Research Center published a research paper entitled " Geometry of sequence working memory in macaque prefrontal cortex " in Science , reporting the coding mechanism of sequence memory by group neurons in macaque prefrontal cortex .
Sequence memory is a basic cognitive function of the brain.
For example, we often need to temporarily remember a phone number consisting of a string of numbers.
Neural coding mechanisms of brain sequence memory: A, Macaque monkeys memorize sequence of light spot positions; BD, Two-photon imaging monitoring PFC population neuron activity in prefrontal cortex; EF, Neural population encoding and decoding in sequence memory
Xie Yang, a postdoctoral researcher in Wang Liping's research group, and Hu Peixuan, a research assistant, are the co-first authors of the paper, and Tang Shiming, Min Bin, and Wang Liping are the co-corresponding authors
.
This research project was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Peking University-Tsinghua Joint Center for Life Sciences
