With funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (approval numbers: 81870506, 81670676), the team of Professor Huang Hui of Sun Yat-sen University has made new progress in the epigenetic regulation of vascular calcification
    .

The results of the study are based on "ALKBH1-demethylated DNA N6-methyladenine modification triggers vascular calcification via osteogenic reprogramming in chronic kidney disease through osteogenic reprogramming.

Cardiovascular complications are one of the main causes of death in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
    .

Vascular Calcification (VC) is very common in CKD patients.

Professor Huang Hui's team established CKD and other models, using DNA 6mA detection and various animal models to study ALKBH1 on the phenotype of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell (VSMC) and the regulation of vascular calcification
    .

The results show that ALKBH1 promotes the binding of octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT4) to the BMP2 promoter and activates BMP2 transcription through demethylation modification.
