The governments of Spain, Portugal and France agreed on Tuesday to strengthen cooperation on renewable energy issues to meet the targets
set out in their national climate plans.
The three delegations met in Madrid, with the participation of representatives of the European Commission (EC), national grid operators and the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E
).
The representatives of the three countries stressed the need to continue working on the interconnection project between Spain, France and Portugal, as well as the importance of energy storage and its role in
the future electricity mix.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition, each country's drafting of its own National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) to meet European targets is not enough for the renewable energy framework to reach its full potential
.
As the power system integrates more renewable energy in the coming years, developing new ways to collaborate across borders and exchange experiences will be an important part of
the process.
