World Energy, March 7: South Africa could be home to a new green hydrogen project that Sakhumnotho Power will develop in partnership with Keren Energy Investments
.
According to ESI Africa, the two companies will seek to build a proof-of-concept (POC) combining a 100-kilowatt photovoltaic solar system with an electrolysis system to produce green hydrogen
.
The hydrogen produced here can also be used in a range of different industries, including fuel in the transportation sector, and a variety of industries where electrification is too costly or difficult
.
The companies said the POC will be one of the first projects in South Africa to demonstrate the feasibility of producing green hydrogen from solar energy
.
Professor Sipho Mseleku, Chairman of Sakumnotho Group Holdings, said: "We recognise that oil and gas will not be the only source of fuel in the future
.
We understand that we must invest in an energy mix that includes oil and gas, renewables and hydrogen in order to Innovate and grow our portfolio in the future
