Materials supplier Solvay has commercialized a new high-performance nylon resin containing recycled content
.
These new resins are sold under the trade name Omnix ReCycle
.
They contain at least 33 percent recycled content, 70 percent of which are post-industrial or post-consumer, officials at Brussels-based Solvay said in a release
.
The new materials "follow the company's 'One Planet' roadmap to continuously improve the environmental footprint and circularity of its product range," they added
.
"As Solvay's first recycled high-performance nylon reinforced with 50% glass fiber, Omnix ReCycle is a real breakthrough in the home appliance nylon market," said Claire Guerrero, Global Marketing Manager.
These materials are ideal for brand owners and manufacturers looking to increase the recycled content in their products without compromising dimensional stability, high stiffness, impact resistance and processability, she added
.
The recycled content of Omnix ReCycle saves resources and has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to virgin high-performance nylon
.
As a result, its global warming potential is reduced by 30%
.
In household appliances, the new material is more durable than standard nylon resins
.
This helps OEMs reduce breakage and returns, while meeting consumers' growing awareness of durability and low environmental impact when choosing products
.
Solvay's Omnix ReCycle resins can be processed on standard injection molding equipment
.
These materials are available worldwide
