Energy company Smartest Energy has announced the signing of a power purchase agreement with Whirlwind Renewables, and a new Scottish wind farm has begun operations
following the purchase of electricity from the project.

Under the signed 15-year agreement, SmartestEnergy will purchase electricity
from the Achlachan project in northern Scotland.

Whirlwind Renewables said the wind farm reached financing and began construction work, which is expected to be commissioned in January 2019
    .

The Achlachan project is one of the
only schemes to secure government contract support contracts for difference contracts before rule changes exclude offshore wind farms from participating in auctions.

Director Whirlwind said, "We are pleased to commence construction work
following the financial closure of the project.
Achlachan is the largest project we have completed on our own and will make a valuable contribution
to renewable energy targets in Scotland and the UK.
