Psoriasis is a common chronic immune-mediated systemic disease that is determined by polygenic inheritance and induced by multiple environmental factor.
When genetically susceptible individuals are exposed to infection, stress, or trauma, dermal dendritic cells are activated to produce tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-23, which stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of pro-inflammatory T cell.
Mesenchymal stem cells are pluripotent cells with regenerative and immunomodulatory propertie.
In this study, we conducted a phase 1/2a study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of UMSC infusion in the treatment of psoriasi.
Seventeen patients with psoriasis received UMSC infusio.
Three outcome measures, including PASI score, BSA, and PGA, are shown for the six responder.
Typical skin images of 3 patients before and after treatment
Changes of T lymphocyte subsets in responders before and after UMSC.
Conclusion: Allogeneic UMSCT is safe and partially effective in the treatment of psoriasis, and the level of Tregs can be used as an effective biomarker to predict the clinical efficacy of UMSC.
