"Politico" reported on April 22 that the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Group of Fresh and Frozen Fruit and Vegetable Producers warned that due to the impact of the new crown epidemic and the Ukraine crisis, the export of frozen raspberries in Serbia has dropped significantly in the past two years .

In January this year, 5,570 tons of raspberries were exported, about 30% less than the 7,930 tons in January 2021
    .
From January to February 2020, the export of frozen raspberries was 19,700 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3,000 tons in 2021, and only 11,180 tons this year, and the export volume has shown a downward trend
    .

In 2021, thanks to the high price of raspberries, Serbian raspberry exports broke records
    .
Exports of frozen raspberries amounted to $426 million, second only to corn at $557 million and ahead of wheat at $255 million
    .
According to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, producers believe that the increase in the cost of living and the energy crisis have deepened fears of shortages of basic food products, leading to major turmoil in the EU market
    .
This is all reflected in the export of Serbian frozen fruit to the EU and other markets around the world
    .
The European market is the main export destination for Serbian berry producers, and one reason for the reduced demand is that raspberries are not considered a basic food item
    .

      Not long ago, Dr.
Aleksandar Leposavic, one of the most senior experts in this field in Serbia, warned that the price of raspberries this year may exceed last year, and is expected to reach 600-800 dinars per kilo (5.
    5 -$7.
    4)
    .
Given the worrisome market situation, it is premature to make such a prediction
    .
The export situation of raspberries is also worrying
    .
But as the main product of concern in world trade, raspberries, like other types of berries, are a luxury item, and exports are subject to a certain stagnation
    .

Serbia's exports to Germany, the largest market for raspberry exports, halved in January this year compared to January 2021, according to an analysis by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
    .
Foreign buyers confirmed that the crisis has changed consumer habits, with people now tending to opt for cheaper products such as frozen mixed exotic fruits due to the high prices of frozen raspberries and blackberries, while also focusing on buying basics
    .

At the same time, the yogurt, jam and other food industries are ditching expensive raspberries and blackberries and replacing them with cheaper fruits, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed
    .
Studies have shown that sales of frozen fruit have dropped by 10 to 30 percent in most retail chains in Western Europe
