a published observational study, a lower risk of breast cancer was associated with 34 weeks and above during pregnancy.
the number of pregnancies has long been associated with changes in breast cancer risk at the point in time, especially at a young age (under 30 years of age) full-term pregnancies and higher numbers of births have been associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. However, it is not clear how these factors affect the development of breast cancer.
Mads Melbye of the Danish National Serum Institute in Copenhagen and colleagues used Data from Denmark's National Childbirth and Cancer Registry to build a queue of 2.3 million women and assess the relationship between length of pregnancy and long-term breast cancer risk. They found that the reduced risk of breast cancer was associated with a duration of at least 34 weeks during pregnancy, which did not result in a reduced risk. They also found that other factors, including the number of births and socioeconomic status, could not explain the link.
, the analysis was repeated in the equivalent Norwegian queue of 1.6 million women. The researchers suggest that a particular biological effect may have occurred around the 34th week of pregnancy, and these findings may help investigate the cause behind the effect.
