Australian energy giant Santos has partnered with South Korean green energy company SK E&S on a carbon capture and storage project, according to World Gas News on February 28
Santos, SK E&S, K-CCUS Association, CO₂CRC and Korea Trade Insurance Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support and collaborate in the development of carbon dioxide storage facilities
Accordingly, the parties agreed to jointly develop CCS projects in Australia and the region, including Bayu-Undan in East Timor
The CCS at Bayu-Undan will have the potential to store around 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year
Santos chief executive Kevin Gallagher said the deal underscores the growing momentum and action to reduce carbon emissions in the Asia-Pacific region
"This agreement opens up the potential for a wider bilateral partnership and cooperation between Australia and South Korea on CCS
