Saudi Aramco and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) are currently considering the integration of an existing refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia with a world-scale mixed-feed steam cracker and downstream olefin derivatives unit , as part of their planned petrochemicals project
.
On October 18, SABIC said in a filing to the Saudi stock exchange that it was re-evaluating the size of the original project to “maximize its economic value while evaluating the best technology options and market risks
.
The planned fully integrated petrochemicals plant, originally scheduled for completion in 2025, is expected to process 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day and produce about 9 million tonnes of petrochemicals per year
