Research found a new mechanism of foot-and-mouth disease virus L protein antagonizing host immunity.

Recently, the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, together with Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other units, published a research paper in the "Journal of Virology", revealing a new mechanism of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) L protein antagonizing the host's innate immunity
    .

The OAS/RNase L signaling pathway plays an important role in the host's innate immune system
    .

When the viral RNA enters the host cell, oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) can recognize and bind to the viral RNA, and then activate itself.

The study found that FMDV L protein can inhibit the degradation of rRNA induced by RNase L through RNA electrophoresis experiments; co-immunoprecipitation experiments found that FMDV L protein, specifically the Lb domain, interacts with the N-terminal domain of RNase L; L protein inhibits sRNase L It is species-specific and can specifically inhibit RNase L-induced rRNA degradation in pig-derived cells; the interaction of FMDV L protein and RNase L inhibits the formation of RNase L dimers
    .

Further, FMDV L protein can inhibit apoptosis induced RNase L

The study found that FMDV L protein inhibits the activation of the OAS/RNase L signaling pathway by interacting with the N-terminal domain of RNase L, revealing a new mechanism by which FMDV L protein antagonizes the host’s innate immunity.
It is for the prevention and control of FMDV.
Infection provides new ideas and methods
