Italy's Prysmian has received a 50 million euro order from Chilean telecommunications service provider GTD to supply the cables needed for the submarine cable system developed by the latter
.
According to reports, this newly developed submarine cable system, called Prat, is to connect Arica to Puerto Montt, passing through Iquique, Antofagasta, La Serena, Valparaiso and Talcahuano, with a total length of about 3,550 kilometers
.
Under the contract, Prysmian will be responsible for the design, supply and installation of the required cables
.
Prysmian will arrange production at its production facility in Nordenham, Germany, to produce 11 cable segments ranging in length from 135 km to 400 km, with deliveries scheduled to begin by December 2019
.
GTD previously announced that the network will offer an initial capacity of 4Tbps, which will be completed
in the second half of 2020.
