Prysmian Group, a global leader in energy and telecom cable systems, has secured three major projects to provide new cable connections
for offshore wind farms in France.
Prysmian has been awarded more than €220 million contract for three offshore wind farms in France
Eolien Maritime France (EMF, a joint venture between French company EDF Energies Nouvelles and Canadian company Enbridge) awarded Prysmian the design, supply and installation of array cables
for two offshore wind farms, Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer.
The contracts for the two prestigious wind farms, worth more than 200 million euros, are expected to be executed
in early autumn.
The third project is for the EMF-owned Saint Nazaire wind farm, worth more than 20 million euros
.
Hakan Ozmen, Prysmian Executive Vice President, said: "These new important contracts confirm that we have all the capabilities to
deliver on our ambitious growth targets for the offshore wind farm market.
Our investment has enhanced production capacity and installation capacity, and the market has full confidence
in us.
”
In these projects, Prysmian will supply a 33 kV three-core XLPE insulated submarine cable system with a total of approximately 345 km
of cables for the three wind farms.
The Fécamp project will involve connecting 83 wind turbines with a total capacity of 498 MW, while Courseulles-sur-Mer will connect 75 wind turbines with a total capacity of 450 MW
.
Prysmian shall provide cables, accessories and terminal services
for the 80 wind turbines at the 480 MW Saint Nazaire wind farm.
These projects will form the construction
of the first large-scale offshore wind farms in France.
Prysmian will rely on the strategic and ready-to-use facilities
of NSW, a subsidiary of General Cable.
The cable cores will be manufactured at the Group's Centre of Excellence in Montreux, France, and then assembled and completed in Nordenhamm, Germany, to supply the French market with Prysmian's state-of-the-art cable systems
manufactured locally.
According to the timeline of the various projects, the delivery and commissioning of the cables is expected in the
period 2020-2022.
