PPG today announced the launch of PPG SPECTRACRON® Splash, a first-of-its-kind two-coat polyurethane combination for composite bathtubs and sinks
.
This liquid coating portfolio provides kitchen and bathroom manufacturers with high-performance protective coatings in a range of colors and gloss levels not currently available on the market
.
The PPG Spectracron Splash portfolio is currently available in 8 standard colors worldwide, which are different from the industry standard colors of white or off-white
.
The two-coat process includes a primer that adds color, strength and durability to the composite substrate, followed by a protective topcoat that seals the substrate and provides custom gloss levels from matte to high gloss
.
Maria Lamorey, commercial strategy manager for PPG Industrial Coatings, said: "This combination is a real breakthrough for the kitchen and bathroom market in terms of durability and aesthetics
.
Our OEM customers want products that are resilient and long-lasting, as well as Design and styling options for today’s leading consumer trends
.
This new product meets both demands
.
”
The PPG Spectracron Splash portfolio meets OEM performance specifications for abrasion, wear and durability
.
Thanks to its high scrubbability, it lasts longer than competing finishes, making it a real differentiating solution in the kitchen and bathroom market
.
Other key performance characteristics include stain resistance, water resistance and chemical resistance
.
The coating is cured at 525°F (274°C) by conventional bake or infrared (IR) methods, creating a solid surface that strengthens the composite substrate and extends the life of the product
.
