A new study shows that among university hospital patients who have recovered from mild cases of COVID-19, anti-infection B cells have better memory of coronavirus spike protein than patients who have recovered from severe COVID-19 patients
Dr.
The focus of this research is on memory B cells that respond to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein
However, the authors wrote that samples from eight individuals who recovered from a milder disease showed increased expression of markers associated with persistent B-cell memory compared to individuals who recovered from a severe disease
The authors noticed that T-bet was positive, and spike-specific B cells almost disappeared from the blood sample 5 months after the onset of symptoms
Non-severe cases do not require supplemental oxygen or invasive ventilation, and severe cases require invasive mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
Study participants were included in the adaptive COVID-19 treatment trial (ACTT)-1 or ACTT-2 clinical trials
The author wrote: "In non-severe COVID-19 patients, the increase in the proportion of B cells related to long-term immunity may have an impact on the long-term immunity against SARS-CoV-2 reinfection or the severity of the disease
Thanks
