Akili Interactive is developing a video game that has been clinically proven to improve cognitive functions.
It has recently announced that it has completed a US$160 million financing, including a US$110 million Series D financing.
The D round of financing was led by Neuberger Berman Funds, and more than a dozen other investors also participated in this round of financing, including Amgen Ventures, Polaris Partners, M Ventures, etc.
The company's flagship product, the prescription video game EndeavorRx, was approved by the US FDA in June 2020 for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Akili said that it will continue to break the boundaries of traditional medicine and provide patients with digital therapies.
Akili will use the new funds to help commercialize its EndeavorRx, while Akili will develop other treatments for acute and chronic cognitive impairment based on video games.
EndeavorRx can be used in conjunction with drugs and other ADHD therapies to improve the attention function of children 8 to 12 years old.
It has been clinically proven that they can target the brain regions responsible for attention.
The game requires children to navigate the animated character of their choice on a road full of obstacles, avoid dangerous areas, and collect targets at the same time.
In randomized clinical trials, about half of the parents of children participating in the study reported that their children’s ADHD symptoms have improved, and nearly 60% of children said EndeavorRx can improve their concentration.
In another unblinded study, nearly 70% of parents saw their children's ADHD-related disorders improve after their children played for two months.
Akili CEO Eddie Martucci said in a statement that the company aims to make digital therapy a more feasible and accessible treatment option for more people.

Although Akili's technology has so far only been approved by the FDA for the treatment of ADHD, the company is actively studying the platform's ability to improve the cognition of patients with other neurological diseases.

Martucci said: “In addition to treating diseases, future digital therapies will also have richer data that can adapt to the unique needs and preferences of each user, provide amazing experiences, and even integrate into our daily lives.
