South African Medical Research Team: People infected with mutant virus can produce immune response |
China News Service, Johannesburg, March 3 (Reporter Wang Xi) South African Minister of Health Mukez and South African Minister of Higher Education and Science and Innovation Nzimandi jointly held a virtual media briefing in Cape Town on the 3rd.
The research was completed by a scientific research team led by South Africa's KwaZulu Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform (KRISP).
Nzimandi revealed that through experiments, researchers found that during the peak of the second wave of new coronary pneumonia in South Africa, patients infected with the mutant virus generally had an immune response, and they were able to avoid the secondary damage of the new coronary pneumonia and its mutant virus.
Penny Moore, a virus expert at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases of South Africa, also pointed out that the above findings are of great significance to the development of a new crown pneumonia vaccine.
As of press time, the total number of confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in South Africa has reached 1,514,815, with 50,271 deaths.
