According to Ministerial Decision No.
519/2022 issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) of Oman on September 13, 2022, from January 1, 2023, Oman will prohibit the import of plastic bags
by companies, institutions and individuals.
Violators will be fined 1,000 rupees ($2,600) for a first offense and doubled for repeat offenses
.
Any other legislation contrary to the decision will be repealed
.
The decision was published
in the Official Gazette No.
1459 on 18 September.

MOCIIP Industrial Director Sami Salim Al Sahib made it clear in a report published by Oman's official news agency that the ban did not cover domestic production

However, MOCIIP has also made it clear that it is working with relevant authorities, such as the Environment Agency, to develop directives and specifications to help importers and industrialists switch to plastic bag alternatives
