UK-based smart energy management provider PassivSystems has signed a contract with the Oman Electricity Regulatory Authority (AER) to negotiate the development of up to 1 GW of rooftop solar
in the country.
AER's plan, called "Sahim Phase 1," plans to install solar PV arrays
in 30% of residential buildings in Oman over the next few years.
AER pursues a model of capital ownership, where homeowners have minimal capital expenditures and receive generous financial incentives to install solar PV
.
Funding for the project is expected to come from a variety of private investors, and PassivSystems' involvement will see the UK company leverage its experience
managing a large portfolio of residential solar systems in the UK.
The contract outlines how the two companies will identify and manage risks, and PassivSystems is committed to developing a robust RfP, analyzing the country's legal model and improving customer experience and recommendations
.
The pilot program aims to sell and install 1,000 to 3,000 PV systems before expanding to up to 250,000 homes
in Oman.
Colin Calder, CEO of PassivSystems, said: "This is an exciting initiative and we will be working closely with AER to ensure this project moves from a vision to reality and is built on
a sound financial model.
