Recently, the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries announced that all applications for land-based fish farming licenses will be suspended, and the government will reformulate laws and regulations on land-based aquaculture, and will not issue new licenses
until new policies and laws are introduced.
The suspension period will last at least 6 months
    .

Bjornar Skjaeran, Minister of Marine Fisheries of Norway, said: "We have been looking for the development of land-based aquaculture and have made significant technological advances, indicating that the industry is experiencing technological innovation and high growth
    .
However, we see that land-based aquaculture needs a clearer institutional framework to distinguish it from mariculture
    .

Skjaeran said the government has received many applications for land-based farming concepts, but many of them are too closely related to marine aquaculture, such as the hybrid flow-through system developed by companies such as Andfjord Salmon and Salmon Evolution
    .

"This model conflicts with the Norwegian aquaculture system, as there is no clear distinction between mariculture and land-based culture and, predictably, does not highlight technological innovations
    compared to current land-based technologies.
    " Skjaeran said
    .

The Norwegian government is currently preparing a new set of regulations for land-based aquaculture that will bind flow-water aquaculture systems, which will soon be submitted to the relevant authorities for consultation
    .
Until the new regulations are introduced, the government will not accept new applications, projects awaiting review will be suspended, and projects that have passed the review can proceed
    as usual.

Skjaeran emphasized, "The Norwegian traffic light system creates growth within the framework of sustainable mariculture, and if land-based systems that are closely related to mariculture are allowed to develop simultaneously, it will affect the growth opportunities
    of mariculture.
" In order to maintain the marine environment and normal mariculture activities, we must avoid this
