The Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry has set its tentative national mackerel ration for 2022 at 100,000 tons, and further negotiations on the allocation of quotas are pending in the first half of this year
    .

Coastal countries agreed to a total quota of 794,920 tons in October, but have not yet reached an agreement on the allocation
    .

Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Bjornar Skjaeran said: “It is important to set a preliminary quota from January 1st so that those who wish to do so will have the opportunity to start fishing at the beginning of the year
    .

"I will ensure that the final national quota for 2022 is set before most Norwegian mackerel fishing begins in the summer of 2022.

    "

Although an agreement was reached in October on the total allowable catch of mackerel, the coastal countries failed to reach an agreement on sharing the total quota between all parties
    .
However, they agreed to form a working group to collect information about the distribution of mackerel
    .

Its purpose is to lay a good foundation for further negotiation of quota allocation
    .

The working group will submit a report no later than February 28, 2022, and the two parties have agreed to hold further negotiations in March
