Nippon Shokubai announced recently that it is conducting commercial investigations with France's Arkema on the construction of a high-purity lithium bisfluorosulfonimide (LiFSI) production facility in Europe, and plans to form a joint venture.
company
.
The implementation of the project is said to support the development of the battery value chain in Europe and contribute to the global movement towards carbon neutrality in the automotive industry
.
Previously, the two companies have established a strategic partnership
.
Nippon Shokubai's know-how in the industrial production of high-purity LiFSI is combined with Arkema's expertise in fluorine chemistry to develop innovative integrated processes
.
Based on this advanced patented technology, the two companies have established a LiFSI pilot production line at Arkema's Pierre Benet plant, which will be successfully commissioned in 2021
.
To meet the further growth in global demand for power battery materials, the two companies will conduct commercialization investigations and establish a corresponding joint venture with the goal of achieving mass production of the plant's LiFSI line by the end of 2025
.
LiFSI is the main raw material for high-purity and high-performance power batteries for automobiles.
It can shorten the charging time under high or low temperature conditions, improve its output characteristics, stability, battery life and recyclability, thereby accelerating the development of semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries.
Including the development of next-generation batteries
