Recently, Japan Electrochemical Corporation announced that it will expand the production capacity of silicon nitride, a material for heat sinks for electric vehicles, with an expansion of about 50%.
It is reported that the company will invest in the Omuta Plant in Fukuoka Prefecture, which is expected to start production
in 2025.
The amount of investment and the current production of silicon nitride have not been disclosed
.
Previously, the company announced a three-percent expansion of silicon nitride capacity in 2020, and this time it will expand the capacity by about fifty percent to meet the demand for
electric vehicles.
Silicon nitride has excellent heat dissipation and strength, and is used as a material
such as heat sinks for automotive inverters.
The popularity of electric vehicles has led to an increase
in the demand for heat sink materials.
Nippon Denka said that the silicon nitride produced by the company has excellent wear resistance, etc.
, and has a high market demand
for automotive heat sinks and parts for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
The company announced an expansion of its production line in 2020, which will start production
in the first half of 2023.
