The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of China to provide US$328 million in credit
for its NIPIT2 national fibre optic network.
The funding will go to state-owned Galaxy Backbone, which signed a partnership agreement with Huawei Technologies to complete nationwide fiber network deployments in 2019 as a complement
to NIPTI1 initiatives.
The NIPTI1 program covers most of the southern states
.
Transport Minister Adebayo Shittu said: "Once the second phase of deployment is completed, the national fibre optic network will not only encompass federal government departments, agencies and all government parastatals, but will also be sufficient to commercialize the private sector, particularly GSM companies and other ICT industries
