Nexans Group, the world's second-largest cable manufacturer, has received an order for the Marjan offshore oilfield project in the Arabian Gulf to supply the latter with 180 km of 230 kV high-voltage cable
.
Discovered in 1967, the Marjan field is one of
the oldest and largest offshore fields in the Arabian Gulf.
Currently, it is working on the Marjan incremental plan
announced in 2017.
To meet the needs of the project, Nexans will supply two 90 km 230 kV high-voltage AC three-core submarine cables with built-in fiber optic cables
.
Nexans is one of the
few cable manufacturers in the world that can manufacture, test, store, transport and install ultra-long submarine cables without the need for submarine connections.
According to the introduction, Nexans will deploy the project
using its own submarine cable laying vessel, the Nexans Aurora.
The required composite submarine cable will be completed at Nexans' plant in Norway, Halden, while the fiber optic cable will be produced
by the Norwegian plant Rognan.
According to the plan, Nexans will complete the installation
of the submarine cable in February 2022.
