New beverage lid wins World Packaging Award

Swedish company UniCup Scandinavia AB has won the Packaging Materials and Components category at the 2022 World Star Packaging Awards for its new LipLid cup lid

The lid is made from 100% recyclable, eco-friendly cellulose fibers that are fully biodegradable in both soil and marine environments
.

The winners of the World's Best Packaging Awards are named after extensive research and analysis by the World Packaging Organization (WPO)
.
According to the results of 36 judges from 36 countries, the cup lid deserves it because it is a better, safer and more enjoyable way to "drink on the go"
.

"This is a great endorsement for our innovative, climate-friendly lid," said Jesper Berthold, CEO of UniCup Sweden, the manufacturer of LipLid
.

LipLid is designed in such a way that it uses 25% less material than traditional lids, while stabilizing the cup, making it stronger, eliminating the risk of the cup tipping over or the lid falling off

This cap is available in a 90mm version and an 80mm version is in development
.
Through the production process, Liplid lids meet the requirements of the Food Contact Materials Regulations: FCM Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and GMP Regulation (EC) 2023/2006
.

The World Packaging Organization is a non-profit, non-governmental international federation of national packaging agencies and other interested parties, including companies and trade associations

The award ceremony will take place during the IPACK IMA show in Milan on May 4, 2022
