The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has developed a new path for Nepal-China cross-border transmission lines to avoid Langtang National Park in northern Kathmandu
    .

A preliminary feasibility report prepared by the NEA last month had identified three possible routes for the proposed cross-border transmission line, but NEA general manager Kulman Ghising rejected all of them because the planned routes crossed nature reserves and wildlife sanctuaries
    .

Ghising then instructed Komal Atreya, director of the NEA's monitoring division and coordinator of the Transboundary Power Line Project, to identify routes
that avoid the national park altogether.

"A team of engineers did a field trip and they came up with an alternative route
    ," Atreya said.
We will now submit a report to the General Manager and forward it to the Department of Energy
    .

After the ministry approves the route, the NEA will negotiate with the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) to complete the deal and construction model
    .
The Chinese government has designated the State Grid Corporation of China as the cross-border transmission line development agency
    between China and Nepal.

The proposed new trail avoids the national park, but it is located at high altitudes and is covered in snow all year round, which also creates great construction difficulties
    .

"If we choose the new route, we will have to erect towers
at certain locations at an altitude of 3,800 meters," Atreya said.
But if the Chinese government helps Nepal because it has built power lines higher than that, this shouldn't be a problem
    .

Nepal is also seeking financial assistance to build transmission lines
that are expected to cost Rs 1,000 crore.
According to the NEA, the Chinese side is very keen to develop the project and prioritizes it
    .

The State Grid Corporation of China visited Nepal in early 2017 to hold talks with the Ministry of Energy and the National Energy Administration to plan a 400 kV cross-border transmission line
    .
During the meeting, Ghising asked the Chinese delegation to extend the proposed transmission line to the south up to Galchhi so that the transmission line could connect the proposed Nepal-India cross-border transmission line
    in the Rupandehi region.
State Grid Corporation officials were positive about Ghising's proposal
