Sinochem News News on August 10th, NatureWorks of the United States announced that its parent company Cargill and PTTGC have approved the construction of a biopolymer plant in Thailand
.
The two parties will invest US$600 million in the plant, with a production capacity of 75,000 tons/year, which will produce lactic acid, lactide and polylactic acid bioplastics
NatureWorks also selected engineering partners for the next phase of the project
.
Previously, Jacobs provided front-end engineering design for the project, and will now complete the final detailed engineering design of the project
In 2002, NatureWorks became the first company to produce PLA biopolymers on a commercial scale

In 2013, NatureWorks expanded the capacity of its flagship plant in Blair, Nebraska to an annual output of 150,000 tons, making it the world's largest PLA manufacturing plant
