Yak is the symbol of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, an irreplaceable livestock breeding resource in high altitude areas, and has important ecological, economic and cultural value
The Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of chinese Academy of Sciences, constructed the high-quality chromosomal-level reference genomes of wild yaks and domestic yaks (named NWIPB_WYak and NWIPB_DYak, respectively) by using Illumina and nanopore technology and combining Hi-C interaction mapping technology to assist genome assembly.
The findings, titled Long read genome assemblies complemented by single cell RNA-sequencing reveal genetic and cellular mechanisms underlying the adaptive evolution of yak, were published in Nature on September 6, 2022Communications) was selected for high-light article publication
Thesis link:Science reporting link:reference genomes of domestic yak and wild yak were constructed, and the potential function of genomic structural variation in gene expression regulation and lung cell differentiation was revealed
