Namibia's Ministry of Information and Communications Technology recently revealed that the Namibian government aims to achieve 95% broadband coverage
by 2024.
Engel Nawatiseb, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Technology, said the government was developing a new broadband policy and implementation plan that would provide impetus
for further innovation and investment.
Engel stressed that high-speed internet access or broadband services are essential
for economic development, employment opportunities, education and civic engagement.
However, there are too many areas of Namibia where broadband is not available in both urban and rural areas
.
According to the proposed broadband policy, broadband is defined as a high-speed Internet connection
that provides a minimum download speed of at least 2Mbps.
