    Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd.
has received an order from NTPC Ltd.
, an Indian public sector utility, to add flue gas desulfurization systems
to its Mouda-II and Rihand-II & III coal-fired power plants.

The project aims to reduce sulphur oxide and soot emissions using a cutting-edge FGD system that helps remove and reduce air pollutants in India
    .
This is the first FGD system order
    in the Indian market.
Installation of the Mouda-II and Rihand-II and III is scheduled to be completed
    in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The projects were ordered through MHPS' India subsidiary and included engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arrangements
    .
The order includes two 660 MW Mouda-II plants, and four 500 MW Rihand-II and III plants with a total capacity of 3,320 MW
    .
The FGD system will be an add-on to the existing power generation facility to support the design of
a cutting-edge spray scud system for treatment by MHPS India.

Coal accounts for the majority of the fuel used in India's thermal power plants, and adding FGD systems to existing coal-fired power plants is becoming more common
    .
This is a pioneering project and the order is the result of favorable ratings and reliability of
    the MHPS Group FGD system.

With the current trend of tightening the restriction of air pollutant emissions, it is expected that the demand for exhaust gas purification technologies and systems in thermal power plants will increase
    .
MHPS will proactively provide an Air Quality Control System (AQCS) that combines a high-performance, high-efficiency desulfurization/denitrification system with a dust collector to help reduce the global environmental load
    .
