More than a year later, the cooperation between the two sides has achieved initial results
    .
Pescanova's farms are located in countries such as Ecuador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and under the synergy of artificial intelligence and big data, Pescanova's Spanish headquarters can be operated in 100% remote real-time, providing certainty
for further investment in the development of the South American shrimp farming industry.

During the Global Shrimp Forum, Pescanova CEO Ignacio Gonzalez said, "We realized that a company that wants to grow overseas and invest in uncertain returns or profitability cannot be accepted by shareholders
    .
The fact is that if we are to expand fisheries and move out of the wild fishing industry, we must invest
    in Ecuador.

"So we need to digitally manage the farming process, but farms are often located in very remote areas and there is no internet, so we have to look for a partner to provide solutions and give them an understanding of all aspects of the farming industry, and that partner is Microsoft
    .
    "

Pescanova has been equipped with smart devices in Ecuador's 1,700-hectare shrimp ponds, including sensors, automatic feeders, underwater monitors and artificial intelligence yield forecasting software
    .
However, the cost of the equipment is not cheap, Gonzalez said the company is spending about 30,000 to 50,000 euros per hectare on the project, and so far it has cost as much as 60 million euros
    .

Gonzalez explains, "First of all we have to capture data with sensors, our previous data is outdated and the quality is far from what we wanted
    .
In the second step, we use artificial intelligence; In the third step, we use Google Maps to view the farm status in real time, and workers can remotely select the ponds that need to be inspected to see the specific content of their KPIs
    .

So far, smart farming has significantly improved farming conditions in Ecuador, Gonzalez said, and "shrimp survival rates have jumped from 50 percent to 80 percent, driving production growth
    .
" Two years ago we had only 800 kg per hectare, now we have 3,200 kg, last month we reached 3,600 kg
    .
Production has quadrupled in just two years, while there has been a marked improvement
    in animal welfare.

As the aquaculture industry income increases, companies are able to hire new employees, especially engineers and technicians from years ago
    .
"It is important that we strongly believe that we are transforming the industry and that the profitability and growth of Pescanove over the next 5 to 10 years will definitely come from aquaculture, not wild fishing
    .
    " Gonzalez said
