As a leading supplier of photovoltaic manufacturing equipment, Meyer Burger Technology Ltd plans to sell its solar systems business to Dr.
Patrick Hofer-Noser.
This will result in the solar systems business and 32 employees being transferred to the newly formed company, 3S Solar Plus AG, which will be sold to Hofer-Noser
, former chief technology officer and board member of Meer Burger.
As part of Meyer Burger's strategy to close the Thun production site, announced last November, it sells its business in the Swiss market, which focuses on MegaSlate products
.
The company said the sale, whose value has not been disclosed, will cause Meyer Burger to suffer losses in the low millions range, including a good-faith recovery
of about 1 million Swiss francs (about $1 million).
Completion of the transaction is subject to standard closing conditions, which Meyer Burger expects to close
in the first half of 2018.
Hans Brändle, CEO of Meyer Burger, said: "With the sale of the solar systems division to Patrick Hofer-Noser, we have found an industry, especially local solution
, for the MegaSlate business and employees.
”
Patrick Hofer-Noser was a founding member and later a representative of the board and CEO of 3S Industries AG in Lyss, Switzerland, which was merged into the Meyer Burger Group
in 2010.
Thereafter, he served as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Officer Meyer Burger Group Board of Directors until 2012
.
From April 2012 to April 2017, he served as Head of Energy Systems until he left Meyer Burger in December 2017 as Policy Liaison Officer
.
Hofer-Noser added: "Together with my employees and partners, I look forward to further developing and expanding the market position of the beautiful and reliable MegaSlate solar roof and façade systems that have been manufactured in Switzerland for more than 15 years and to contribute to
protecting the climate.
