The Mauritanian government has formally signed an agreement to join the EllaLink submarine cable system

This means that the EllaLink system will add a dedicated branch line to Mauritania

The access to this submarine cable also means that Mauritanian operators will be able to improve broadband services while providing greater resilience

Dr Sidi Ould Salem, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Information and Communication Technology, said: "This agreement confirms our commitment
to addressing the connectivity challenges facing Mauritania.
Internet connectivity is essential
to ensure that Mauritanians have effective and reliable communication services and to drive digital transformation in the region.

The 6,200-kilometer-long EllaLink cable system is the first submarine cable system to directly connect Latin America and Europe, scheduled to be operational
in 2020.
EllaLink connects data centers in Madrid, Lisbon, Marseille, Fortaleza and São Paulo and will also provide fast undersea connectivity
