Recently, the President of the Republic of Malawi led a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of construction of a 60MW Salima PV project in the country

by InfraCo Africa and JCM Power, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG).
Malawi's Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining said, "The current government has been working hard to ensure that Malawi's energy issues are a thing of the past

The Salima PV project is very important

This is the first solar IPP to reach construction and will address some of the challenges
facing the power sector.

The JCM project leader noted that more than 230,000 solar panels will be installed at the Salima PV project, which will start supplying electricity
in 2019.
InfraCo Africa and JCM Power are already working on Salima Solar's sister project, Golomoti Solar, located in the southeast of the
country.
Together, the two installations will propel Malawi's installed capacity to more than 80 MW by 2020
