On November 21, LyondellBassel announced that the company is building a state-of-the-art recycling plant
next to its Wesselin plant in Germany.
Utilizing the company's proprietary MoReTec technology, this commercial-scale, state-of-the-art recycling plant converts pre-treated waste plastics into feedstock for new plastic production
.
The MoReTec advanced recycling plant is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025 with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons
.
The raw materials produced will be converted into new Circulen Revive polymers at the Lyon de Baselveserin plant for applications such as food packaging and healthcare products
.
Yvonne van der, Executive Vice President, Cycle and Low Carbon Solutions at LyondellBasel
Laan said: "We are actively working to advance the circular economy
.
Advancing our MoReTec technology is another step
in LyondellBasel's efforts to accelerate the development and implementation of scalable, sustainable and circular technologies.
This high-output differential technology is able to convert waste plastics into pyrolysis oil and pyrolysis gas, which are used as raw materials in pyrolysis furnaces to produce new plastic materials
.
Solid process residues can be reused or utilized in other applications, making this technology an energy-efficient, zero-waste process
for recycling plastic waste.
”
According to LyondellBasel, MoReTec technology can recycle most types of plastic materials, such as multi-layer food packaging or mixed plastic containers
.
Polyolefin-based waste plastics are broken down in proprietary reactor units to form high-quality feedstock
that can be used to produce new plastic materials at the LyondellBassel polymer plant.
