Spend CHF 40 million to build a second patented Exolit® OP halogen-free flame retardant production line in Daya Bay Future Factory;
2.
It will help meet the rapidly growing innovative and sustainable fire protection needs of Chinese and Asian component manufacturers in the fields of electric vehicles, electrical and electronics, transportation, 5G communications, infrastructure and home appliances;
3
.
Strengthen Clariant's commitment to bringing flame retardant production and local expertise closer to customers.
On October 20, Clariant will build a second production line
at its Exolit OP halogen-free flame retardant plant in Daya Bay, China.
The high-tech plant costs CHF 60 million and is currently under
full construction.
The additional CHF 40 million investment will further expand innovative and sustainable flame retardant solutions and related expertise, supporting the significant growth of engineering plastics in the e-mobility and E&E sectors
.
Jochen Ahrens, Head of Clariant's Flame Retardants business, said: "We see from the rapidly growing demand for Exolit OP flame retardants in China and other Asian markets that brands and equipment manufacturers are increasingly turning to halogen-free flame retardants to meet the increasing demand for electrification and sustainability
。 Our support from local production and technical experts in Daya Bay, combined with the R&D capabilities of Clariant's One Park Technology Center in Shanghai, will enable us to respond more quickly to local, regional and global supply needs and work more closely with customers to meet increasing safety regulations and technical performance requirements
in electric vehicles, 5G communications, transportation and other sectors.
”
The new flame retardant plant in Daya Bay will further complement Clariant's production capacity beyond its two Exolit OP plants in Knapsack, Germany, benefiting its global customer base
.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, logistics and supply chain challenges, Clariant is on track to meet the original timeline of starting production in Daya Bay around mid-2023 and putting the second production line into operation
in 2024.
Clariant will produce its patented organic phosphine flame retardant
worldwide.
The Clariant Verbund Shanghai team will support
customers in the joint development and application testing of flame retardant solutions.
Bringing manufacturers closer to component manufacturers is an important commitment of Clariant in China, enabling it to strengthen cooperation along the value chain, enhance product innovation and actively address sustainability challenges
.
Some of the company's Exolit OP products have good recyclability and will also strongly support the development of
a circular economy for plastics.
The two new flame retardant production lines will share the infrastructure and build capabilities
of Clariant's Daya Bay plant.
Daya Bay Factory makes full use of local resources and attaches great importance to safety issues
.
Since the start of construction, 500,000 working hours have been successfully achieved without accidents
.
