South Korean telecommunications company KT's submarine cable construction subsidiary has been awarded a contract worth 9 billion won ($7.
9 million) to build a portion of the cross-border submarine cable system
for a consortium of telecom operators and content providers.
The 14,000-kilometer-long JUPITER project, a consortium of PCCW Global, Facebook, Amazon, NTTC Communications, PLDT and Software, aims to connect Maruyama and Shima in Japan with Los Angeles, and is expected to begin construction
in the third quarter of this year.

ACCORDING TO REPORTS, JUPITER SUBMARINE CABLE WILL USE ROADM TO PROVIDE MORE THAN 60TBPS OF CAPACITY, ROADM USES WAVELENGTH SELECTIVE SWITCH (WSS) TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE CUSTOMERS WITH MORE DIVERSE CONNECTIONS AND ENHANCED RELIABILITY, AS WELL AS OPTIMIZE THE CONNECTION TO THE
WEST COAST DATA CENTER IN THE UNITED STATES.
According to the plan, the system will be put into operation (RFS)
in early 2020.
